What does this tool show?

All visitors can see:

  • The public IP address detected for this visit
  • Internet Service Provider (ISP) and approximate geolocation, when available
  • Internet DNS provider and configured security filtering status, when available
  • An IP geolocation map based on approximate city-level data
  • IPv6 results when available; IPv6 support is currently under construction

Recognized campus and VPN visitors may also see:

  • Campus network and Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) assignment
  • Network Access Control (NAC) details, when provided by UB network systems
  • Wi-Fi connection details — SSID, access point, and signal quality — when available
  • Building location map (street-level, where available)

Knowing your network details can help diagnose connectivity problems, either on your own or with assistance from the UBIT Help Center. Help Center staff may ask you to visit this page so they can use the information shown here to help identify the problem. Anyone using VPN can confirm whether traffic is routing through campus before accessing IP-restricted resources such as licensed databases or administrative systems. Anyone using Wi-Fi can verify that the detected network information is what they expect. If something looks wrong — an unexpected ISP, an off-campus address while on-site, or a missing VPN address — this page gives you specific details to share with the UBIT Help Center.
