About Check Your Internet Connection
A network troubleshooting service for the University at Buffalo community, operated by UB Information Technology.
What this service shows
This site displays the Internet Protocol address visible to UB services. Depending on your connection and the information available from campus network systems, it may also show:
- IPv4 connectivity and, when available, IPv6 results. IPv6 support is currently under construction.
- Whether the address is recognized as on-campus, off-campus or connected through a campus VPN.
- DNS resolver and DNS security information.
- Campus network, VLAN, DHCP and IP address management details.
- Additional device or connection information when supported by UB network management systems.
Get help
You can use these results to investigate a connection problem yourself. The UBIT Help Center may also ask you to visit this page and use the Print Report (PDF) button on the home page to share a summary of the available connection details.
Privacy and appropriate use
The service processes network and browser information needed to produce diagnostic results. Operational and usage data may be recorded for service reliability, security and troubleshooting.

Check Your Internet Connection is a modified derivative of the upstream whatismyip project, originally developed by William E. Whitaker, Jr. and UNC Information Technology Services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
